Vaccination advice & travel advice Leimen

Our philosophy
What are vaccinations and which should you have carried out?
There are infectious diseases whose outbreak can be prevented by vaccination or significantly reduce the risk. The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) recommends that some standard vaccinations be carried out, which apply to all age groups
This includes vaccinations against:
- diphtheria
- tetanus
- pertussis
- polio
- Haemophilus influenzae type b
- hepatitis B
- measles
- mumps
- rubella
- chickenpox, if necessary
You are welcome to have the standard vaccinations as well as youth vaccinations carried out by your general practitioner in Leimen.
Which vaccinations are also important?
In addition to the standard vaccinations mentioned above, certain risk groups, such as older people and people with pre-existing conditions, should consider specific vaccinations. In this case, we will of course advise you in detail in advance and put together an individual vaccination plan. It is also essential that you maintain complete vaccination protection. Ideally, keep your vaccination certificate and keep track of your vaccination status. If you are being treated by us, we will regularly review it for you. Should a so-called refresher be required, you will receive the information directly from us.
How do vaccinations work?
Viruses or bacteria can trigger infections in the body, but in the best case, our immune system will of course protect us from them. In return, it remembers the pathogens and, should the same attack again, it can react more quickly with its defense. Vaccines also make use of this immunological memory by containing killed viruses or bacteria or components that are supplied to the body. The body then produces antibodies and can activate immunological memory. Vaccination is targeted training of our immune system and thus provides reliable protection. In the end, you decide for yourself which vaccinations you would like to have carried out, as there is no compulsory vaccination in Germany. That is why our advice to you is: Our team is happy to provide you with comprehensive advice in advance.
Our travel medicine advice as an IGEL service
Would you like to travel abroad and would like to find out about possible travel vaccinations? Your general practice in Leimen is the right place for you. Take all necessary precautionary measures with us, especially if you are spending your vacation in a tropical or exotic country. What exactly does that mean? You may need to extend your vaccination coverage to include hepatitis A and B, typhoid, or rabies. When it comes to well-founded travel advice, it is just as important to inform you how to prevent malaria or other illnesses, what protective measures you can take against insect bites and what you need to consider with regard to food and water hygiene. In addition, we will put together an individual first-aid kit with you.
It's good to know. Travel medicine advice is an IGEL benefit that you must pay yourself. This also applies to travel vaccinations, although, under certain conditions, partial coverage of the costs by your statutory health insurance company is possible. We also recommend that you make an appointment with your general practitioner in Leimen early before you travel so that you have enough time for vaccinations and all further preparations.
